LondonSEO Party – Thursday 21st February

That’s right, SEO Chick Lisa has highjacked LondonSEO, and I’m organising the party for the last day of SES London. This is going to be ONE awesome party. Still can’t believe they are trusting me to organise this, mowhahahaha…

We got two fantastic sponsors for the party, RedFly Marketing and Altogether Digital.

Myself and Evilgreendonkey were out scouting for a venue last week and have decided on the Camden Head in Islington, it is located just 2 min walk from the Business Design Centre where SES is being held. The pub was used for a previous LondonSEO party 2 years ago for anyone that remembers that far back =) Wayyyy before my time, I was wearing SEO nappies back then!

So put this in your diaries:

Date: Thursday 21st Feb 2008

Time: 17:00 – until late

Venue: Camden Head, Islington

Nearest station: Angel

I have also opened a Facebook Group for the party, please feel free to join.

Oh and I would appreciate RSVPs either through comments or the Facebook group, now lets show the Americans and Europeans how the LondonSEO crowd party =)

For the regulars, will be nice to see you all again, for those of you that haven’t been to a LondonSEO party before, you won’t regret it =)

I remember that venue from the last event at the BDC, it was lovely and warm and the beer garden was fully utilised… Oh well, I’m sure it will be nice and warm with the amount of snake bites we’ll be drinking.

    See you there!

  2. LisaDit January 21, 2008 at 10:19 pm #

ha ha! Funny you should say snakebite, I just posted a photo on the Facebook group for the party and it’s from the last LondonSEO party after SMX, with us all smiling like fools on crack, yup, drinking snakebite =)

*** The pub was used for a previous LondonSEO party 2 years ago for anyone that remembers that far back. ***

    Even bigger questions.

Does the landlord remember US at all, and would it be good or bad if he did?

We’ve reserved the large room upstairs until 8pm, by which time the lightweights would probably have left, and the people I piss off will stay upstairs for the comedy night. We can then socialise downstairs and outside (weather/shelter permitting). Hopefully I can resist going for a curry half way through the event like 2 years ago:

I’ll be there – WITH CHOCOLATE! That is, I’ll bring it *IF* I can convince someone to eat it. Sheesh – you’d think I was passing out poison!

  6. sem4u January 22, 2008 at 11:44 am #

I was at this pub last time. It was a blast and is not to be missed! It was my first LondonSEO meet and I have even turned up to a few since!

  7. kelvin newman January 23, 2008 at 7:59 am #

Didn’t you have it drilled into you when you were a kid Judith not to take sweets from strangers!

Not gonna be able to make ses but might be able to pop in for a pint

  8. Tim Nash January 23, 2008 at 5:53 pm #

Can anybody recommend cheap digs for the night that accept dirty stop outs? or even better floor space?

  9. g1smd January 24, 2008 at 2:17 am #

There’s a few hotels in the “under 40 quid per night including breakfast” price range, in that area, as well as the ones needing 150 to 400 quid per night.

  10. asamuel January 24, 2008 at 10:58 am #

Should be a good do; I assume the Ayima boys are coming??

  11. evilgreenmonkey January 24, 2008 at 11:02 am #

We are indeed, the Ayima boys run LondonSEO :) Oh, Lisa is an honorary member of the Ayima crew ;)

  12. deCabbit January 24, 2008 at 11:19 am #

@Kelvin – are you implying that I’m strange?
    ;)

@g1smd – you gonna let us know *what* places are under 40 quid a night???

  13. Julie Joyce January 24, 2008 at 2:09 pm #

This is the pub of the first London SEO that I attended…I don’t advise anyone to try falling UP the stairs, just for the record. And watch out for their Red Bull and vodkas. They’re evil.

  14. gabs January 25, 2008 at 12:45 pm #

    Looking forward to it..

I remeber the one here 2yrs ago.. I got in so much trouble in tesco’s after leaving pub looking for FOOD LOL..

@tim Loads of b&b’s around.. hotels are a little $$$$ around angel..

  15. Matt Attwell January 28, 2008 at 4:39 pm #

Very much looking forward to it. New to London, not so new to SEO. See you all there!

  16. Nick Wilsdon January 29, 2008 at 1:04 pm #

Looking forward to attending – just sorting out last minute visa issues.

  17. evilgreenmonkey January 30, 2008 at 10:35 am #

Oh no, the Russians are coming! Looking forward to meeting you in person finally Nick :) It’s a shame I never managed to make it over to Moscow.

  18. GerBot January 31, 2008 at 3:14 pm #

    looking forward to it guys

  19. Pete Young February 1, 2008 at 11:12 am #

Any plans for drinks for the other days of the conference – sure I won’t last four days without a drink?

  20. evilgreenmonkey February 2, 2008 at 12:26 am #

No plans for me – Client work + in-house work + affiliate work + spamming + future conferences = not much drinking time.

  21. Judith 'deCabbit' Lewis February 2, 2008 at 6:39 pm #

    @egm – I like the “+ spamming”… honesty isn’t expected here ;)
It is a packed time of the year though – I have a ton on and would hate to miss the socialising but withthe parties and endless media stuff, it’s always gogogo

@Nick W – looking forward to catching up with you – will you be in London all on your lonesome?

I know there will be lots of PubCon folks at SES so the drinks should be a riot!

  22. g1smd February 2, 2008 at 8:43 pm #

There’s usually a group of about 20 to 40 people hanging out in the Hilton hotel bar (next door to conference venue) most evenings (from 6 or 7 or so, until well after midnight), starting on the Monday evening before the conference.

If you turn up there and no-one seems to be around, then try a bit later. During part of the evening most will probably be eating out for an hour or two in one of the very many restaurants in Upper Street, and the various adjacent roads.

  23. epetoke February 4, 2008 at 7:57 pm #

sounds like fun. I am going to try and come.

  24. Nick Wilsdon February 5, 2008 at 10:13 am #

    >Oh no, the Russians are coming!

Yep any requests for Stolichnaya or Marlboro need to be made in the next two weeks! Will be good to finally catch up with you Rob!

    @Judith

Yep just me on my lonesome this time. It was too last minute to get a visa for Anna but we’ll both be back there in December anyway.

I’ve still not sorted out accommodation. The Hilton only has the top end rooms left but Jury’s Inn still has space at £128/night. Anyone staying there or have other suggestions?

  25. Quality Nonsense February 6, 2008 at 12:32 am #

Doh. I’m in New York on the 21st. I’m starting to wonder if Virgin Atlantic tip you lot off as to when I’ve booked flights for…

  26. Dave Davis February 7, 2008 at 9:03 pm #

Richard, Mr Branson is a good friend of most people attending. The date was not a coincidence. ;)

  27. Quadrille February 8, 2008 at 11:02 pm #

Hoping to pop in and catch up with a few folk that I know …

  28. Adam Lasnik February 11, 2008 at 1:49 pm #

    Looking forward to it :)

  29. Dunny February 14, 2008 at 11:47 am #

I have a one of me pals book launches that night too… Damn it. gonna have do both I suppose.. see you there

  30. g1smd February 14, 2008 at 9:27 pm #

@deCabbitt: Are you sorted for hotels? Tried to send you information via twitter, but it doesn’t work.

  31. Mike February 15, 2008 at 10:41 pm #

I’m hoping to make it along too. Be gentle with me…

  32. Judith deCabbit February 17, 2008 at 12:07 pm #

@g1smd – I gave up and decided since I was a wimp at PubCon and left everywhere hours – DAYS – earlier than other revelers I needed to maintain my image as an early-to-bedder and just take the train home every night.

I know… WIMP… but I’m also going to have to file stories and thus can use the train to force myself to get some writing done :D

I’m still wondering if I should continue with the chocbait after only the security guards at PubCon could be counted on to consume the quality Swedish Druid Chocolate I had with me :(

  33. Lyndon February 17, 2008 at 7:53 pm #

@Judith, hmmmm, choco, hey you better bring some, it’s the only reason I would come ;)

  34. Janusz February 18, 2008 at 10:12 am #

I will check the train tickets and may come down from Bristol.

  35. Nishan Khednah February 18, 2008 at 12:27 pm #

Looking forward to finally making this (my 1st), I will defo be there. Thanks!

  36. deCabbit February 18, 2008 at 2:56 pm #

@Lyndon – for you, I shall bring Sweedish Druid chocolates!

    COME ON EVERYONE!

THERE WILL BE CHOCOLATE – surely that alone – and not necessarily the free booze – is reason enough to join in the fun!

  37. Janusz February 18, 2008 at 4:14 pm #

@Judith: Just booked train. Looking forward for chocolate then!

  38. Ian Cowley February 18, 2008 at 11:41 pm #

Looking forward to it. Should be a good turnout.

  39. Robert Reeve February 19, 2008 at 11:51 am #

Look forward to meeting some London SEO folks.

  40. LisaDit February 19, 2008 at 9:54 pm #

Should be awesome. The last session finishes at 4:30, so should be in the pub from about 4:32 ;) It’s literally across the road from the conference centre (just down one of the side streets!).

  41. evilgreenmonkey February 20, 2008 at 8:14 am #

Everyone has to try and scare away the regulars at the pub so that we can take over the place :D

  42. Bruce Cat February 20, 2008 at 10:14 am #

This is great, a SEO party in London. Count me in :)

  43. Matt Ridout February 20, 2008 at 2:58 pm #

Look forward to meeting you all and testing the pork scratchings selection (if available!)

  44. jonny platt February 20, 2008 at 5:49 pm #

I’m coming up from Brighton for it – should be good to get a chance to meet some people!

  45. sem4u February 21, 2008 at 11:45 am #

evilgreenmonkey – I think we all managed this last time! ;)

  46. Joe Williams February 21, 2008 at 2:28 pm #

I look forward to it, count me in too!

  47. sem4u February 22, 2008 at 11:04 am #

Great party. Thanks for organising it LisaDit and for those that put money behind the bar.

I met some people from the forums who I have never met before – that was really interesting :)

  48. sem4u February 22, 2008 at 11:04 am #

Choc bait was good too ;)

  49. Janusz February 22, 2008 at 11:40 am #

Thanks guys! Really good party and had a very good time. It was well worth coming from Bristol.

  50. deCabbit February 22, 2008 at 11:41 am #

I was GUTTED at the melted box of chocolates!

And the fact the local M&S was sold out of both chocolates and cornflake chocolate crumble things.

However – chocbait worked WAY better than at PubCon. Obviously SES attendees and LondonSEO mobbers know how to spot good chocolate!

  51. jc1000000 February 22, 2008 at 12:56 pm #

    what a wicked night!

thanks a lot for organising it – really nice to meet everyone aswell.

    Pics are up here: http://moblog.co.uk/blogs.php?show=16014

  52. Jon Myers February 24, 2008 at 12:57 pm #

Great party guys, better than 2 years back! Great to catch up with alot of old friends and meet lots of new ones. The chocolate was good too :)

  53. g1smd February 25, 2008 at 4:52 pm #

Nice to meet up with a few new faces, especially those that have been posting over at SEF that I hadn’t met before…

Adam Lasnik managed to not talk about Google or SEO for almost all of the evening, too.

That pub was a bit crowded, and they cleared the upstairs room (and my fresh pint) for their comedy club night, while I visited the loo. Grrr.

Saw someone being handed a meal from behind the bar, fought my way to the front to order some food, only to be told the kitchen had closed about 1 minute ago. Grrr.

So, continued with the liquid lunch instead… and didn’t get up until after 10am the next day…

  54. g1smd February 27, 2008 at 10:58 pm #

One of the best photos of SES London 2008… http://www.flickr.com/photos/storyspinn/2280774033/

    LOL.

    It was a great meal!
